Had a friend take a look at the Chromebook as I had cataract surgery and he said the chipset connections had issues but he was able to repair it. The 311 is up and running just fine.

That's a good result then! i get great pleasure from resurrecting failed hardware, even when it's old and probably not worth the expense of taking it to a repair shop.

Same here as I hate wasting hardware. I setup the Acer 311 and its running great. Its in such amazing condition overall and will make a great portable system. Its lighter and quicker than the HP 11a g8 ee Chromebook. I cant say enough about how great these systems are for average everyday use, great portability and very secure.

I've reached a point where I probably won't be buying any newer hardware and will stay behind the curve and use older hardware , plus maintaining my much older systems for specific uses.

Tweaked my Ryzen 5 5600x gaming system and have gotten back into gaming after my cataract surgery.

Not really Linux related, but in the past month I purchased a big electric chisel thing and a set of PEX tools for doing new PEX plumbing. This was triggered because the water heater died and had to be replaced. I took @crosscourt's suggestion and decided to just go ahead and redo all the plumbing.
So I chiseled out a few tons of stone and rock from the basement using that new electric chisel thing and spent a week trudging it the steps out to a trailer and off to the landfill. Then it was simply a matter of sorting out PEX piping and learning to use new tools. OK, there was nothing fun about it, but it would have been a far more miserable job in the summer when it is hot.
