Ive been playing with my wifes former computer that runs the Athlon II X3 435 cpu. Im using it as a Linux test system and running Zorin 15.1 and Kubuntu 19.04. Radeon 4200 graphics arent bad and speed so far is very good for a 2009-2010 pc.

If it had shipped with 2x8 instead of 1x16, I wouldn't have this at 32GB. But it's actually a noticeable difference between single channel and dual channel, so quite glad that I did. The only other machine I might upgrade to 32GB is my desktop, and that's most likely ONLY if I find a 2700x for a good price. Currently a 2700x would be a MINOR speed boost, but wouldn't have faster memory timings as the current memory is only 2400, not 2666. So need to get 2x16 GB 2666 to take full advantage of an upgrade to a 2700x.

Biggest thing I want the 2700x for is the turbo is MUCH better on the 2000 series. The 1000 series is far superior performance when manually overclocked (although given I have an OEM board, there are no overclocking options despite it being an X370 chipset), whereas with the 2000 series the gains are minimal as the overclocking algorithm is so much better. So I'd realistically see a big jump once it was able to better use faster memory and would turbo cores far more efficiently.

I use to be a crazy OC guy and would kill myself to get even a slightly better frame rate but these days the performance is so good stock its something I rarely bother with. A lot of hardware also even with overclocking, you dont see huge improvements depending on the gpu/cpu. Stability is far more important to me.

2000/3000 series has such good auto-overclocking that manual overclocking isn't even needed. 3000 even better than the 2000, but nowhere NEAR the size of the improvement as the 2000 was over the 1000. But best of both worlds with either. :D

I don't seem to be utilizing the 16Gb I have although I do use Vm's more now but don't normally run more than two at the same time so still plenty spare.

I don't use my 16 GB either actually. But it's 16GB DDR4 2400. This is 32GB DDR4 2666. Because the 2000 series ryzen increased the max memory speed max (2933 if no more than 2 dimms, single ranked dimms, 2666 if 2xdual ranked or 4xsingle ranked, 2400 still if 4 dual ranked), I wanted to get this for when I find a good priced 2700x to upgrade to in order to max advantage of it (I couldn't find a 2x16GB kit with single rank dimms for anything resembling a decent price to be able to use DDR4 2933/3000).

Mine is using 2400 although it's more than adequate for my needs at the moment.
