Fedora Kinoite

Post by wove »

I installed Fedora Kinoite on the X230. The install was easy and straight forward. KDE Plasma version is 5.24. Fedora is using the same wallpaper for the KDE spin that is used for the Gnome version and it is a nice looking wallpaper.

The screen on the X230 is 1366X768, which is fine for the 12 inch screen. However there are dialog boxes in KDE that are taller than 768. In online accounts for instance, when adding NextCloud a box appears asking for the server address. This box starts at the top of the screen and goes off the bottom. That leaves whatever buttons (Apply, Next, Cancel?) off the bottom of the screen, making it impossible to complete the dialog.

Flatpak has lots of Gnome applications, however there are not that many KDE applications. The Fedora repositories have most everything KDE and apps can be installed with rpm-ostree install, but that is not how an immutable desktop is supposed to be used though.

The X230 is a nice well endowed machine and KDE runs very on it. With the dialog box size problem and fewer KDE apps in flatpak, Fedora Kinoite may not be the best choice for the X230.
