So got the new shift knob in for the Vette. Seems there's 2 types of shift knobs for C6 Corvettes. I didn't get the right one (why would you have 2 different types for the same FRACKING CAR!!!!). I chopped some room off at the bottom, cut off the parts of the mount that were catching on the linkage cover. Then find out that the internal shaft is also about 1/8" shorter, so while it now mostly fits I need to drill out that extra 1/8" so that I can lock it down via the lock screw. :(

Back in the day they had a huge number of shift knobs for my 70 Dodge Charger all factory.

It's the actual mounting mechanism that's different, that's the problem. they actually have 2 (at least) completely different mounting mechanisms for the shift knobs...

Apparently, yes. This specifically said it was a 2007 Corvette shift knob...so either they have multiple mounting mechanisms in the same year on the same model, or it was incorrectly labeled (it matches the picture, so it is the correct part).

Did they use different transmissions that included different shifters/knobs?

Same knobs, same transmissions, only difference is the gearing. The base/Z06/ZR1 use 1 gearing and the Z51 uses a different gearing (actually the same gearing as the C6.R), but the transmission itself is the same.

Thats nutty and something I never experienced with shift knobs with Dodge.
