Re: The Intel SSD 760p 512gb review
I'm not a fan of Intel SSD's. Not sure if it's all of them, or only the ones that are business focused, but at least the business focused ones have firmware that when you reach the "expected" MTBF level, they automatically switch to read-only mode and they're no longer usable, even if they still have remaining overprovisioning space to continue to activate for failing storage.

The mainstream versions dont do that to my knowledge but the other tech site I work for is doing an interview with intel on their mainstream drives so Ill post back.

Yeah, wasn't sure if the mainstreams do that or not, and my only Intel drive is a LONG way from finding out (in my wife's Yoga 700).

I like their drives but WD and Samsung are my real favorites.

Yeah, most of my SSD's are Samsung. I also really like the SanDisk.

Western Digital bought SanDisk so you get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, but they're marketing them different. SanDisk are still marketed more "upscale" while WD SSD's are (currently) much more limited in terms of size and using only entry level controllers thus limiting performance.

Thats why I say I like WD and Samsung. WD is affordable and reliable but nothing special but Samsung has some great drives. Now that said WD eventually intends some higher end offerings that right now they dont need with SanDisk in house.
