Any ideas?

Post by tlmiller » Fri Nov 29, 2019 3:50 am

So, decided to troubleshoot the Bluetooth issues on the Lenovo today after it got the 5.3 kernel and Bluetooth still wasn't working. It's always had this issue ever since putting the AX card in. It sees it, but can't power on the Bluetooth, can't scan. But the wifi portion works perfectly. So decided to swap OS's between that and the 7490, which had the same card, but working perfectly in Arch. Get Arch installed on the Lenovo, same things. Wifi perfect, but Bluetooth it can't scan, can't power it on, etc. Bummer, must be bad hardware.

So swap the AX200 to the Inspiron 7375 that had a 9260 AC card working 100% perfect. Same issue as the AX200 as soon as it's in the Lenovo!!! And fire up the 7375, and it's working perfectly (in fact I'm listening to my music from my NAS over bluetooth right now). So somehow, that laptop refuses to work with Bluetooth 5.0 (came with a 4.2 card). I'd put it down to whitelisting except Lenovo no longer does that. I found nothing in the bios for Bluetooth (or even wireless at all, for that matter), so I think it might be that chipset just doesn't work with Bluetooth 5.0, but figured I'd ask if anyone had any ideas first. I've got an old Intel 8265 (AC + 4.2) at work, I'm going to try swapping to that to see if it works.

I've always found Bluetooth to be a bit flunky, sometimes I can get it to work and sometimes not, I have long since given up even trying and only use Bluetooth for my headphones to my phone now.

I've never had Bluetooth issues except with this one. And of course this morning I was using it and decided to click on Bluetooth, and it was able to scan and connect. Connected to one of my speakers now and working. :x :x
