Cant speak to your older hardware but Zorin in my case is fast run live session, fast to install, and a very quick experience to use on a 4th gen Dell E6440 laptop from 2011-2012.
They also have a light XFCE version for much older hardware.

You are talking about hardware that is 5 generations beyond "hardware requirements", so it is not surprising it does better. Linux often touts running on older hardware, which is technically a good thing, but as a marketing point it can and does leave a user disappointed. It seems to encourage adoption of Linux, it would be far better to set system requirements so the user would have a good experience.

This is not a slam on Zorin. The same specs refer to Mint, Pop, Kubuntu Focus and most of the Ubuntu 22.04 derivatives. I just think Linux would have a broader appeal if system requirements were based on good user experience rather than simply on "it is technically possible" to run on this hardware.

That was just a recent example, but Ive run Zorin OS 15.3 on a Dell Latitude E6400 from 2008 and it ran very well with no issues.

They still havent released 17 for upgrade using the Zorin OS updater. They went to great lengths to launch it and here we are with no upgrade path.
