Ubuntu 22.04

Post by wove »

Ubuntu 22.04 was sent out into the wild today. <www,ubuntu.com> I have not used Ubuntu is some time and I just had to download it and take a look. It is a big download 3.7GB. I just looked through it from the live USB image and did not install.

It has nice fit and polish. I thought the Jammy Jellyfish wallpaper was alright. On the X230 everything was supported out of the box. Touchscreen, Camera stylus, sound were all working excellent right from the Live image. Overall it feels like a nicely done job.

The beta has been out for a week or so and it was getting good press. I started with a Commodore and moved to the Mac for a long time. I dabble in Linux for a few years, but it was Ubuntu 8.04(?) that really lead me see that I could use Linux as the main system. For a long while I had to try every release, then cut back to just looking at the LTS releases. Another LTS dropped and I just had to give it a look. It looks nice.

I think the guy that really pushed Ubuntu Mate, Martin Wimpress(?) was moved to the lead of the main Ubuntu distro. When he was lead on Ubuntu Mate, he really pressed hard on a polished fit and he was a big supporter of the Raspberry PI, with I think Ubuntu Mate being one of the first rather well known releases to fully support the Pi.
