Top 15 review ranked distros

Post by crosscourt »

This is from the top 20 distros on Distrowatch distro rankings,

1. Mx Linux 17 9.62
2. AntiX/ Arch 9.24
3. Deepin/PCLinuxOS 9.02
4. CentOS 8.96
5. Lubuntu 8.91
6. Solus 8.86
7. Linux Mint 8.76
8. Manjaro 8.73
9. OpenSUSE 8.72
10. Elementary 8.68
11. Fedora 8.65
12.Antergos 8.63
13.Debian/Linux Lite 8.47
14.Zorin 7.59
15.Ubuntu 7.5

Gives you a different perspective versus the popular rankings. MX Linux 17 is 17th ranked by views but thru reviews is number 1 but Linux Mint who is number 1 in views is 7th in reviews. Ubuntu was 15th after being 4th in views, that got my attention.

A lot of Debian based distros getting fantastic reviews but the list is very mixed with RPM, Arch and Ubuntu based distros as well.

I do find it quite interesting that so many distros that come from bases (Debian and Arch) that are notably difficult for new users to get to grips with, have respins (or derivatives) that are a lot more appealing to new users and are gaining popularity all the time, whereas Ubuntu which although is loosely based on Debian is pretty much a made for the masses distribution that although it is disliked by many Linux veterans is actually more user friendly to newbs than most other distro's out there but doesn't seem to do as well as I would think. I do understand that MX, and a few others are upping the ante on becoming user friendly but I would put money on the fact that somebody who has never used Linux before would find Ubuntu the easiest to get to grips with.

Mint is the most requested in my experience but MX Linux along with PCLinuxOS and Lubuntu, due to all the older hardware out there.
