Re: Raspberry Pi OS 2020-12-02 released
This is a very good update. This update incorporates all the Debian updates found in Buster 10.7. It also swaps out ALSA in favor of PulseAudio and does it so the change is transparent to the end user. It also adds the seamless printer setup system found in Ubuntu, so you no longer need to deal with Cups web interface. Although I think improving support for the Pi 400 was the driving force behind the update, it also updates the earlier Pi devices.
The Raspberry Pi OS is available in several flavors, a 32bit and 64bit as well as a full desktop and cli installer. The full desktop seems mostly focused on students, with programming being a big focus. A couple flavors of Ubuntu and Manjaro (that new 20.12 version for a few days ago) are obtainable for the more general user desktop.
The Raspberry Pi OS is an exceptionaly well put together OS, it is stable, supports the hardware it is designed for to a fault. Being Debian I find the cli version makes an excellent base to build a system just for me.
