Fernando Alonso to leave F1 at the end of the season

He will be driving elsewhere in 2019 and the rumors abound from Indycar to endurance racing with Toyota. Of course everyone took their shots as Alonso has always been a fiery person who was demanding and divisive at times, so whats new with the best drivers?

Itll be interesting to see where he goes but leaving F1 right now isnt a bad choice.

Agreed. Not a bad choice, and I can't say I'm surprised. The biggest surprise is that he lasted this long in such a completely uncompetitive car.

I actually like IMSA WRC and WEC more than F1 even though F1's history makes it so interesting,but recently F1 has issues.

Rumored report that McLaren may enter the Indycar series with a two car team, Alonso and Dixon who hasnt signed with Gnassi or anyone else yet.
The series is far better suited to them actually versus F1 but they seem to be pushing to get Sainz to take Alonso's place as Gasly is rumored to be the preferred choice for Red Bull.

I thought I read that Dixon had announced he will be resigning with Ganassi?

Actually Ganassi announced that Dixon signed a multi year deal to stay I just found out. There are other good drivers though for McLaren that they can seek out. Bourdais comes to mind.

Sainz signed a multi year contract with McLaren to replace Alonso and more rumors on McLaren starting an Indy team with Alonso and another driver to be determined.

Yeah, I saw that today about Sainz. If the development team gets their act together, this will be a GREAT opportunity for Sainz to really shine.

Sainz is very familiar with the Renault engines/packages. He may be able to garner some additional performance, given he ran very well in the factory Renault cars.

It appears that McLaren will be affiliating itself with Andretti racing for the 2019 season after rumors of going with Rahal -Letterman Racing.
