The life span of ceiling fans.

Post by wove »

A month back I turn off our ceiling fan to reverse the direction of rotation. It would never turn again. I got a new ceiling fan to replace it. When I was doing the swap and took the old one down I found the date code stamped into side of the motor. It was stamped 3-17-84. I knew we have had it for a long time, but I did not realize it had been in service for 37 years. It has been running almost constantly. Turned off the switch direction twice a year, probably turned off a couple times to paint the room and of course off during power failures. Very reliable old tech for sure.

If you buy a quality name brand it should last you 20 years plus. My present fan wasnt cheap but its been running 15 years with no issues so far. Its really you get what you pay for with ceiling fans.
