21/H1 installed on the tablet last night. When I opened it to read the news over breakfast I had a message telling me it had restarted to install updates. When I checked what that was about I found out that 21/H1 had been installed. I do not notice any difference in UI or operation, so I have no idea what it did.

32H1 should not have installed without your permission. Its an optional update at this point with a few exceptions, Microsoft hardware will force the update but other than that it shouldnt happen. 21H1 has a lot of security updates and the addition of the news and interests tab on the taskbar. There are other changes but nothing worth mentioning.

Ive updated 8 systems so far with 21H1 including one actual install. A few quirks but no major issues.

My expectations for Windows 10 is low, which maybe is not fair. The update to 21/H1 has been a god send. Many of my biggest annoyances were magically corrected. A tiny screen with a 1920X1200 resolution needs scaling if I am going to use it. Scaling worked very poorly, icons were enlarged as was some text, but other text remained too small to be readable. This update cleared up the scaling problems and now the text is consistently and properly scaled along with the graphic elements.

The Microsoft store, which would randomly install items I did not ask for, software I purchased would not install has cleared up. Items I did not want or install went away and the software I had purchased was updated and not run well. Battery life went from 5-6 hours up to 8-9 hours.

Well anyway I am surprised and very happy with this update. Over the last couple days the Surface Go has went from a quirky tablet, to a decently useful device.

The MS store randomly installed items you didnt ask for? Thats the first time Ive heard of anyone having that happen and it hasnt happened to me so far with over 50 installs, very curious. 21H2 which will be coming in October will have a much larger effect and sweeping changes to the desktop, but dont worry its not completely over the top.

Upgraded the desktop to 21H1 today. I personally don't see any differences, but then, my level of usage on Windows involves 1. Boot. 2. Start Steam or Gog Galaxy. 3. PLay games 4. Shutdown. So...not EXACTLY a power user nowadays on Windows. :D

Also updated my USB installer of Windows to 21H1 so I could put Windows on the Latitude 3500 to get it ready to sell.

If you use a Microsoft product such as the Surface, youll see a big difference in many respects, which may also explain why wove had things installed he didnt ask for and the biggest reason why I wont use a Microsoft PC. Other than that security was the biggest change with 21H1, particularly for remote use.

I certainly didnt think I would in this deep with Windows again but sometimes you have to do whats needed. I use Linux at work some but Im on Windows quite a bit of the time.

Already there is an added update for 21H1, thankfully not too large.

Yeah, that was available when I did the Latitude 3500 install and the upgrade on my desktop. I didn't read the release notes, I just installed it. :D

If its an optional update I look at the release notes first and install it on my PC first as Ive got good backup options. Very tame update though and really not much happening till October.
