Yeah, getting their academic stature revoked would seriously hurt the prices. This could be VERY good for the open source community, as they'll probably add quite a few features to make things work like they need, and I would be very surprised if they didn't commit most of those changes to the source.

Its interesting how many companies, cities, countries and organizations recently are making moves away from Microsoft.

It's also interesting that in the past, MS would have jumped to prevent them from even considering it, giving them MASSIVE discounts on licensing to make it financially inpractical to bother moving to open source. Now, you no longer really hear about any of that. In fact, in the case of CERN, just hte opposite, as it was MS who removed their academic stature and basically shrugged when CERN threatened to dump as much of the MS software as they could.
