This would involve all the Ubuntu versions and youll also notice that apps like Bleachbit will no longer spot Chromium for cleaning, due to this change.
This information comes directly from Canonical and was first discussed with the 18.04 version.

This also will be affecting GalliumOS 4.0 when it's developed for those that don't realize it's based on Ubuntu. I've actually been talking to the GalliumOS dev's, and they're considering switching to Firefox as the preinstalled browser for 4.0 due to many Chromebooks have 16GB drives and the size of snaps vs. binaries.

It will affect most Ubuntu based distros depending on how they decide to move forward. To me no big deal as there are other browsers and I like Firefox. The way I run my systems its not a big deal.

The biggest affect for me is I need to figure out what to do at work. We either need to switch to off-domain linux laptops, install the full Chrome browser, or switch away from Ubuntu. None are overly appetizing solutions for me for support for different people.

Re: Chromium only offered as Snap in Ubuntu
All of our applications are tested on Chrome/Chromium, so yes, it is an absolute at work. Thus why this pisses me off so much. This one application is the ONE application at work that I cannot afford to lose functionality on, but will if anyone upgrades before I've figured out what to do.

I don't know, I think I'd rather just find a new distro. While 20.04 might only be Chromium, by 22.04 it'll probably be 1/2 the distro. Get out while it's early and save the anger of not being able to function without a million workarounds.
