I'm loving having a 11 TB NAS...

Post by tlmiller »

Never really kept iso's around before since I have so many machines that get reimaged so often, but now that I've got the NAS, I have a share set up for iso's, have it in /etc/fstab on my desktop (will add on my laptops also, but with the users, noauto since obviously it won't be available when outside my home), and already have added more iso's than I think I've ever had before:

Code: Select all

Youre having fun!! 11TB.....? Im still behind the curve as the largest drive Ive used is only 500gb. I keep isos on dvd/cd for over 500 distros old and new not including my older OS collection, but Im beginning to back that up online.

My test isos are in a binder that i pull out when I need it or for a customer. I make free copies all the time for people. I deal with newbies so much I try to keep things simple.

Yeah, this thing is a RAID-5 of 4x4 TB drives. AFter the losses for parity and formatting, it's 11 TB usable.

Nice, 4x4TB. A bit big for my uses but who knows I might get use to it, :)

Yeah, I've been trying to think what possible things I could put on there to take up room. I've got all my Windows programs that I use for reinstall, all my saved settings from linux installs, all my mp3's, I've been downloading the isos, all the various pictures from when my wife & I were dating and early marriage, pics of my paintball gear, pdf manuals of my paintball equipment, etc etc. And I've still not even gotten CLOSE to using a single TB.

Thats the way it is with me as ive not gotten close to needing a TB. Ive had raid with 2 and 4 500gb drives but even that wasnt used enough so i repurposed the drives.

If I had time though between games, testing, Windows, Linux and other projects Im sure I could fill it up pretty well.
