Who knew that Linux would eventually takeover the desktop market thru Chromebooks, which have become a huge threat to Microsoft.
In my case my wife is considering moving to a Chromebook/box to avoid using Windows 10.

The year of Linux may actually happen and if Windows apps can be run on Chromebooks, Microsoft may still gain revenue in a different way.

Chromebooks wont work for all users and businesses but they will serve the needs of many and put a real dent in Microsofts market share.

Chromebooks have also become an issue for Apple given recent sales numbers.

Apple is a totally different user IMO. Apple buyers want an Apple. They don't want something they can just use, they want an Apple specifically. They will only "settle" for something else if they can't have the Apple product. Apples greatest enemy in terms of their computers is...Apple. Their refusal to update the lineups and continuing to ask premium prices for products that have 2-3 generation old processors and chipsets in them is beginning to alienate their users. Chromebooks would never, on merit alone, be able to threaten Apple because of the Apple user mentality.

Its interesting as MacBook users have been switching to Chromebook Pro in particular. Ive seen quite a few articles and in forums people are talking about switching. Im not saying they are making huge inroads and pure Apple fans wont switch, but the numbers are better than you think,

But again, I seriously doubt any of them would have switched if Apple hadn't basically told their pc users that they simply don't care about them by continuing to offer the same old thing for years on end with no product refreshes, AND no price drops.

No doubt Apple is their own worst enemy, but many people are looking at simple alternatives and Chromebooks really fill the bill for many.

With the newer ones being able to run Android & Debian apps, they are much more useful than they once were now.
