Been a good week for free hardware

Post by crosscourt »

Friend of mine gave me two Dell 2007FPb monitors that for their age are great looking 20" displays, that run natively at 1600x1200 at 75hz.

Another friend gave me a brand new set of Altec Lansing VS2620 desktop speakers that sound amazing for their size.

Who says older tech cant be fun, :D

Did you know Altec was once owned by James Lansing,of JBL. It was originally called All Technical, but was shortened to Altec when Lansing lost the company to creditors. He went on to form James B.Lansing, later JBL. :geek:

Yes I knew that, as I was a huge fan of JBL and became aware of the back history. JBL was my favorite pc speakers over the years, but over time, JBL fell away and I moved over to Altec for my gaming rig.

Played a few games on the Dell 2007FPb and performance was excellent along with image quality. Worked fine with a variety of new and old games.

Works fine with my Geforce 1050 Ti.

Friend just gave me a Dell Optiplex 7010 DT he had as he knew I was using them and liked the systems. For the average person the 7010 DT is an ideal sized system thats easy to upgrade if needed with its clean design.. This one has an i3 3.3ghz but Ill probably upgrade that to an i5 3.4ghz. Mu other one has Windows 7 on it but this one Ill more than likely run OpenMandriva Lx 3.03
Now I need to find somebody with an i5 ivy bridge cpu they dont want.

If only it was one more generation newer, I'd have an i7 you could have. I have a 9020 at work about 8 months out of warranty that the motherboard just died. i7-4770...

I may, not sure. I have a optiplex 3010 that I need to replace as the fan is starting to get loud (and obviously it's long since out of warranty), but I have no idea what chip is actually in there.
