Video card situation

Post by crosscourt »

Need to upgrade from the RX570 but right now there are no options. Cards new are really expensive. Even a move to the RX5600XT will run close to $400. High end cards are far more expensive approaching $700 or more. Ita actually easier to buy a pre-built pc and both upgrade and gain access to a better GPU. Used doesnt help either as prices are inflated. People are selling high end systems for low prices minus the GPU, which shows you the state of the market. I can get a Alienware R10 with a 5600x,32gb of ram,1tb ssd, open box for $599, minus the GPU, its nuts.
Hoping the prices drop at some point.

I don't know, if you don't go too high, the RX 6600 (MSRP $320) can be found <$340. Even found a sale on ebay for a brand new one for $330. RX 6600XT (MSRP $380) can be found for $390. So while it's not GREAT prices, it's definitely possible to find the newest generation for NEAR To MSRP now. The RX 6700XT is where it starts getting to be significantly higher.

Running a 460w psu for starters so might be an issue. Id really rather stay in the $200s if possible. Its an odd situation as in fact the Ryzen 5 2600 bottlenecks the RX570 by an average of 7%-12%. Even the 5600x bottlenecks the RX570 by 3-7%. If I were running a 5600x with the RX570 Id see about a 30fps improvement with the RX570.
Other issue is length of the card. this case cant use a longer card so it would have to be a similar length to the RX570(241mm/9.4in). You use to own a 5675 and you ran the RX580 didnt you? Thats a 10.4in card so that may be the limit.

OH, staying in the 200's you're not really looking to upgrade to a new card. There's nothing in that MSRP range that's a hardware upgrade from your RX570. You'd be looking at RX 6400's, which is SIGNIFICANTLY weaker processing than your RX570, although also uses 70-watt, so doesn't require external power. Or the 6500XT, which is still a little weaker than your RX570, although MUCH closer, and would be quite a bit smaller and less power.
However, as far as voltage and size, MOST 6600XT's are about the same size as my RX580 was, and are only 160-watt, so only a 10-watt increase from the RX570. Most Vanilla 6600's are actually SHORTER than the RX580, and more like most RX570's in size, while also being 132-watt TDP, so being LESS power draw than the RX570. Although yes, both are going to be more expensive than you really want to spend. And unlike most things, video cards are the 1 piece of hardware I basically never purchase used, since there's simply too big a chance that you get one that was abused.

Confirmed card has to be no longer than 10.5 inches. I picked up a XFX Swift 210 RX 6600 for $329 on Ebay brand new. Should net around 40-50fps better than the RX570 at 1080P which is easiest on my eyes.

Yeah, probably the ideal upgrade given the size and power constraints.

132w power usage which is ideal, is excellent in the 1080P range but still can play many games at 60fps at 1440P. No heat issues and fits easily into the case. I read some reviews and one ran 59 tests and average fps improvement over the rx570 was 33-55fps. Lets hope it lasts as long as my rx570 did as Ill be keeping it as a spare at least in the short term.
