Looking at running Zorin 16 on the 3340 as I already have Win10 on my 7470,7270 and 6440.

I was finally able to test and setup the 3340 which was in great condition and is a far cry nicer than the 3330. I do miss the lack of hard drive cover for easy replacement with the 3340 as Ive got to pull the whole bottom of the laptop off to get to the ram/hd. It does have 2 ram slots so its going to get 8gb. Tested it with a live Zorin 16 session and it ran very well considering I was using a live dvd. As soon as the caddy comes Ill make my final decision on what to install.

Decided to install Win10 as Im going to use Linux for my older laptops and some of them may end up getting tossed. The 3340 was manufactured in 2014 and mine was made in 2015 with a 2018 bios update so its not to bad. I used my wifes old Win10 install from a Dell 6440. The 3340/6640 share a lot of the same hardware and Microsoft allowed me to activate the install from that drive.

Something was going on with the hard drive and I ended up with consecutive blue screens. Pulled the drive out of the 3330 and placed it in the 3340 and Microsoft allowed me to activate it and its working fine. This drive is a 240gb SSD so the performance is excellent, along with the 8gb of ram. System is running well and Ive got Zorin 16 running in the 3330.

Its interesting as there is a huge difference between the 3330 and the 3340, both with hardware and overall design. Its something you dont tend to see as Dell tends to change things incrementally.

Their 13's are weird. 1 generation will be an ultrabook, the next will be a tablet with removable KB/Mouse, the next will be a 2-in-1. While the 14's & 15's are generally very similar, and even MOST of the 12's are as well, the 13's are all over the place.

The 3330 reminds of the Vostro V130 and even though it was released in 2013, its using the same cpu series as the 6420(should have been Ivy Bridge) and an outdated wifi card.
It does have individual removable panels for ram/hd and wifi card which is a plus but has horribly done display hinges. The 3340 uses the same cpus as the 6440 but you have to take off the entire bottom of it to gain access to ram, hard drive and wifi card(excellent speed compared to 3330). Hinges on the 3340 are excellent and its overall design is a bit more durable than the 3330. They look nothing alike overall as the 3330 is silver with black trim and the 3340 is blue and black. 3330 has a better variety of ports and more USB ports than the 3340, but the 3340 has an HDMI port and USB 3.0.

Dell isnt the only one but many companies repackage older tech and release at later dates as budget systems at lower prices.

After using it awhile its turned out to be a great laptop with excellent battery life. Ive been running Win10 but also been testing live media with various Linux distros.
