A beta bios is planned for my X370 motherboard and they are providing it to Dell so its a wait and see if I can use the Ryzen 3000 series down the road.

I will say if the jump from Zen2 (3000) to Zen 3 (4000) is anything like the jump from Zen/Zen+ (1000/2000) to Zen2 then I'll probably pony up the $$$ to do the upgrade. Despite not upgrading in terms of cores/threads, I've been INSANELY impressed with improved performance of the 3700x compared to the 1700x given it's not THAT much faster frequency, and it's the same amount of core/thread.

Really happy with the performance of my R5 2600 which was only $110. Id still rather look towards getting a better video card at this point.

Right now the Ryzen 5 3600 is one of the hottest selling cpus, as reported by Amazon and companies like Newegg. Id certainly like to be able to use it down the road.

Yeah, although Amazon actually has the 3600x as it's top seller. Either one delivers some pretty impressive performance for the price. The 3600x is faster frequency than my 3700x, 6 core, 12 thread. While the upcoming i5-10500 (I think) matches it and even surpasses it's boost frequency, it also does so while drawing (real world) SIGNIFICANTLY more power, therefore requiring a significantly better cooling solution than the 3600x can get away with. And in a turn of tide, it's the Ryzen's that now have the IPC advantage compared to SkyLake++++++++++++++++++ (I might have went a LITTLE overboard on the plusses, but at this point I've forgotten how many refreshes SkyLake has had now).

The 3600 is a mere 65-watt chip, producing (comparitively) little heat, and matches the 'x' version with 6 cores and 12 threads, although not surprisingly has NOWHERE near as high a frequency since it's 65-watt vs. 105-watt.

.Actually when I looked the 3600 and the 3600x were the top sellers at Amazon. I want to be able to use my present power supply and dont want to use additional cooling so the 3600 will work just fine. Now I have to wait and see if Dell will allow me to use it.

That was my reasoning for wanting a 3700x instead of the 3800x. 65-watt vs. 105-watt.

Im really happy with how quiet and cool my system is and I want to keep it that way.

I REALLY wish AMD would release the 3900 to retail. IT's a 12-core, 24-thread 65-watt OEM chip. I don't want the 105-watt 3900x, but I definitely would be interested in the 3900.
