Ive used all three Mint versions and all have been good. Now that Im back on my desktop Im going to reinstall the Mate version.
Im trying to gain some consistency with my distro use and stick to a major distro for the future.

Still recovering from that problem that MX-18 had,...well not really, just pissed I've been reloading everything. Got rid of Compiz completely, but that wasn't the problem. I have the power management feature set tso the monitors never sleeps, but it STILL goes off after 5 minutes..! Ugh..! I might jump to Mint Cinamon for this desktop HP Pavilion. Any input would be appreciated. I've been working alot and trying to get my home ready for Winter. It's difficult when you're by yourself.....

Did you try Mx19? I thought that might be the better route as you are used to Mx18...

How old's the pavilion? Or, more directly, how old & what type is the graphics in it? That's the biggest thing for functionality. The GPU's are the big thing that limit older hardware w/ newer kernels.

I would say try it, you can usually get an idea of any issues from the live session. I installed it for a friend and he is extremely happy with it.

Generally I'd try it as well. If it's an Intel GPU, or an older but not ancient Nvidia card, there's a good chance it'll work. If it's older ATI/AMD, yeah, might want to stick to something that uses an older kernel.
