Acer Chromebook 14
My wife decided on this one and we got it for $199. 1.6 Intel, 4gb ram and a 32gb emmc ssd. Should be here next week and looking forward to seeing how this goes. Will also need to get a VGA to HDMI connection so she can use her present monitor.

Re: Acer Chromebook 14
HD version 1920x1080 but nice looking display as Ive seen it in store. My wifes Canon MX922 printer supports Google print with my gateway, one touch WPS button and youre done.
She'll be able to run thr Android Microsoft Office apps along with the Google suite and they offer Sway Microsoft's new publisher app which is what she needed. She was using the original Publisher app. Thers also the Adobe Cloud app so it looks like all her bases will be covered. A Crossover beta app is available and will become standard that she can use to run other Windows apps. Its looking pretty good so far. Storage that could be an issue as there is only 32gb native, add to that 100gb with Google drive but with just two USB ports external storage will will be needed, or other online storage like Dropbox.
We'll figure it out.

1920x1080 is the FHD. 1366x768 is the HD (full HD vs. HD).
I'm pretty sure that one also has the ability to run Debian apps.

Re: Acer Chromebook 14
They list it as 1920x1080 HD so cant really say.
Googole drive offers 100gb free for 2 years then it runs 1.99 a month for 100gb and 2.99 a month for 200gb so shouldnt be an issue on top of using other external storage options like USB pendrives.
The acer can run Linux apps as well as Android apps so its a win/win. Add Crossover for Windows apps and honestly its a very attractive platform without all the Win10 stupidity.

Just ordered the hdmi to vga adapter so she can use her external monitor. Boots in 6-8 seconds and can run 12-15 hours on battery.

Yeah, Chromebooks get some seriously fantastic battery life. I know my HP Chromebook 14 that I had (3 of at different times) running with a massively customized GalliumOS (KDE Plasma), I'd get 7+ hours, and this was 3-4 years ago!!!crosscourt wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 3:30 am Just ordered the hdmi to vga adapter so she can use her external monitor. The newer ones are nice. The older ones before they added the ability to do android apps, Debian apps, and limited Windows apps were only fun because they were cheap and could be modded to run a full linux OS. The newest ones are genuinely nice because they run all those different apps from different OS's on such an inexpensive, and in a growing amount of cases, pleasant device to use.
