Re: I found my Qualcomm!!!

Yeah, eventually Realtek does get easier, such as the REaltek on my el' cheapo machine is the 8822(b,c?)e Wifi 5 chipset, which is now supported in the kernel for drivers, and just needs the realtek firmware to work. Is your Atheros stuff Ath5K (A/B/G)? While TODAY those drivers are great, they were...

Re: I found my Qualcomm!!!

For getting it to work, Atheros and Intel are still tied for me. Both are (if not Debian), turn on, it works. If Debian, install non-free firmware (firmware-iwlwifi or firmware-atheros, respectively), reboot, and it works. Realtek is...awful. Compile modules because the drivers aren't in the kernel....

Re: I found my Qualcomm!!!

In my experience, Intel and Atheros are both incredibly reliable and stable, but Atheros generally performs better since AC days (prior to that, Intel performance was better). Not sure if it's the cards or just Ath10K (AC drivers) improved a lot over Ath9K (N drivers) and prior. Realtek is barely fu...

I found my Qualcomm!!!

So, I've been wanting to get away from EVERY laptop I own having an Intel wireless. However, the issue was that the only other modern wireless card I had used that was any good is the Qualcomm/Atheros QCNFA765, which is IMPOSSIBLE to find until recently for sale. The Realtek 8852BE doesn't seem bad ...

Re: What hardware are you using?

Ugh, I'm guessing it's exceedingly similar to the Elitebook/Probook bios, so yeah, they are horribly laid out for logic IMO. Lenovo's ThinkPads are much better IMO for that regard, but Lenovo has kinda lost me recently as they don't currently make anything that has AMD processor + 14" or smalle...

Again, these are not super detailed, mostly because I'm lazy. They're very basic written to give people an idea of how linux friendly hardware is, and if there's any major issues and the basic value.

Re: What hardware are you using?

Technically Lenovo offers that on ThinkPads as well, being able to download an update .iso that can be run from CD/DVD, or with the geteltorito script that's available in most distributions it can be used to create a bootable USB. However, Lenovo only offers that for their premium business ThinkPads...
