Elementary OS 7 released

I have not tried Elementary OS is some time, however I was very intrigued by it when it first came out. I actually sent them the money they asked for and bought the CD. When the CD arrived it came with a hand written Thank you Note, signed by one of the leads. I thought that was a very nice touch. I...

Decrypt hard drive with TPM2

This was posted on Fedora Magazine. It shows how to decrypt a hard drive encrypted with LUKS using TPM2. This allows for Fedora installs and perhaps other Linux installs to setup the TPM to automatically decrypt the hard drive. This would allow a Linux install to boot without the need for entering t...

Re: Endless OS 5 released today.

The problem with a prolonged black screen at startup and applications not showing up on the app grid are problems that are often noted in the forums. I do not think I have ever noted what is the cause or how to correct the matter. In many cases with Endless such problems seem to go away as mysteriou...

Re: Endless OS 5 released today.

Endless OS 5 can use Gnome Shell Extensions, many of which I used to customize the look and feel of the Gnome DE. You can gain access and control of Gnome Shell Extensions by installing "Extensions" app from the App Store. Dconf Editor is another app in the App Store, what allows for makin...

Re: Endless OS 5 released today.

OSTree installs for reasons I do not understand just can not be cloned. I use Gnome Backups (Deja-Dup) to make backups. These backups work fine to restore the system they backed up, but they can not be used to move to a new install. And I have no idea why. The USB installer can be used live and you ...

Re: Endless OS 5 released today.

Bin, you do bring up a point that bothers me. I like to encrypt my data and as far as I can tell there is just no way to do that on an Endless install. I typically do not dual boot, so do not even think about that, but that is another thing that can not be done in Endless. It does however have a Win...

Endless OS 5 released today.

Endless OS updated to V5.0 today. Endless moved from their own desktop to a more stock Gnome, based on Gnome 41. The core OSTree is built on Debian, so there are really no changes to the core. The update is very seamless. The update starts with a "Tour", which is very nicely done. It goes ...

Re: The weather has been crazy

The other day the wife said there was a cluster of robins in the backyard. I was not sure I believed her, but today I noticed the cluster of robins in the front yard. That is very unusual, I do not know how far south robins go for the winter, but you just do not see robins in Minnesota in the winter...

Re: What hardware are you using?

An HP 15t-dy100 off for me to replace the battery. It is a nice looking machine. 10gen 17 with 16GB of RAM and NVME drive. I have not powered it on, because there is no need to start it up to replace the battery. It has a 15.6" screen and is very similar to the Lenovo T580, right down to a nume...

Re: What hardware are you using?

I bought a regualar Team Group SSD, the silver one with the green lettering. It has been an excellent drive, I do not know the bench marks on it, but it has seemed very peppy at moving large amounts of data around. So I did not think much about it when I bought a Team Group Vulcan Z, a black drive w...
