Kalendar and Fragments

Kalendar has reached version 1. It is a desktop calendar for Plasma. It uses the same backend as Korganizer, so if you have that setup either on its own or via Kontact, Kalendar will open with access to your calendars. You just need to select the calendars to use them. It works very well with NextCl...

Re: Bash scripting tutorial

That's a nice link. Mr. Dai-Trying has some nice bash shell scripts on the home page of this site. I bought a couple O'Riley books on bash scripting, which were way more than I needed, but interesting to read. I always thought of bash scripting as just being a continuation of the bat files from DOS.

Re: Windows 10 gone in 2025, Windows 11 on the way

if I get a good enough job offer this week.. May the gods of jobs and work smile on you. I do not think I would enjoy supporting desktop users at all, in fact I am pretty sure I would really suck at it. In woodworking my typical line was, "You said you knew how to use the tools. Either figure ...

Re: What hardware are you using?

After pickuping up the X220 tablet I did have a minute of, "What were you thinking!". I am really glad I did get it though. The X220 was by far my favorite laptop and it is nice to have one up and working again. I found in my pail full of RAM another 8GB SODIMM for the X220, so I can confi...

Re: Windows 10 gone in 2025, Windows 11 on the way

In the world of Linux, I have mostly always like to be with the really stable (Debian) or at least LTS versions. However in Windows I have tended to think Windows has no where to go but improve, so I go to the latest. Usability changes, but somehow it does not seem to get better. In any event I am o...

Re: HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Mini

I bought an HP 2 in 1 laptop/tablet as a graduation gift for niece a couple years back. I had got it used from a fellow who just did not like it. I cleaned off his stuff and set it up fresh, I was surprised at how few option were available it the UEFI firmware compared to what use to be available in...

Re: KDE 5.24 finger print and overview.

Just a quick follow up on this. With Endeavour upgrading to 5.24 it is left missing a couple packages to activate the finger print reader you need to add fprintd and libfprint. After I did that on the X220 the finger print configuration showed up in the Users section of System Settings. The overview...

Re: KDE 5.24 finger print and overview.

Endeavour updated on the X220 and I do not see anything about setting up a finger print reader. The system does see the finger print reader. I did at one point have Gnome on an X220 and I know that Gnome recognize it.

Re: KDE 5.24 finger print and overview.

I beleive I read that RedHat was the maintainer of xorg and they were looking for a new maintainer with eventual plans to drop xorg. FreeBSD is discussing whether to investigate porting wayland to BSD. I would guess that will not happen during my lifetime:) However FreeBSD has the same KDE version a...
