Re: Ask a question about modifying PATH?
Thanks, I had gotten the path part correct, the part I had missed was the logging out and logging back in. This is a case where one can give proppers to Ubuntu developers who have ~/.local/bin/ in the path statement out of the box, so once the script is installed it just starts working. Debian does ...

Ask a question about modifying PATH?
I installed a python script with pip3 install and it actually worked. However I got a message saying that ~/.local/bin was not in my PATH. So to run the script I can use export PATH=/home/wove/.local/bin:Path which lets me work the command until I exit the terminal. If later I open the terminal to u...

Re: Armbian Buster and Bionic
I meant to ask in my last reply about your performance testing. Were the issues with resource utilization in Gnome specific to the Gnome Shell or was it a broader problem with gtk3. I was interested if the issues impacted Budgie, Mate or Elemetary DEs or were the specific to just the stock Gnome DE?...

Re: Armbian Buster and Bionic
I am curious how architecture impacts performance and resource utilization. I have only spent a few hours working with each KDE and Gnome. This limited usage as of now shows very little difference between the DEs. ARM processors seem to like to keep usage between 30 and 70% and maintain there proces...

Re: Armbian Buster and Bionic
I gave the Armbian Ubuntu Focal build a try, installing the Kubuntu desktop. It runs very well uses about 500MB RAM when running. It does seem to always push the processor cores pretty hard, but generally it remains responsive. KDE seems to me to just be getting worse and worse as far as application...

Re: Armbian Buster and Bionic
The current Pinebook Pros do ship with Manjaro KDE as the default OS, when I purchased mine the default OS was MrFixIt's Debian with a Mate desktop that did not support much of the Pinebook Pros features. Manjaro has done an excellent job of supporting the Pinebook Pros features, but their KDE has m...

Re: Armbian Buster and Bionic
I had decided I wanted to try a Pinebook. When I went to order it, I first saw the Pinebook Pro and I really did not read carefully. I just assumed the Pinebook Pro, was just a Pinebook with better screen, keyboard, trackpad and case. The reality is it is a different beast entirely. The Pinebook is ...

Armbian Buster and Bionic
Probably not of much interest here, but Armbian released updated supported version of both their Bionic and Buster builds for arm based machines. Since I have a Pinebook Pro this was somewhat exciting. I installed the Bionic version, which is a very basic build of Ubuntu 18.04 with an xfce desktop. ...

Re: 10 useful free OCR tools
I use gscan2pdf with the Tesseract OCR back end. It creates a good looking pdf, and is reliably text searchable. It is not however (text) editable if opened in a pdf editor. I am generally scanning in old tech documents or manuals. My goal is to have something readable and something that can be quic...

Re: KaOS 2020.06 released
I like KAOS. It is the only rolling release that I pay much attention to. The latest releases include flatpak support, so it is now pretty easy to add gtk applications. KAOS still uses the XFS filing system, and they have been talking a long time about moving to the kernel from OpenIndiana and movin...
