Re: VLC

As I said earlier, both those stations are very UK orientated - they're manned, and womanned, by "older" DJs from the days when music was music - late 50s, 60s, 70s. And, obviously, timings are UK orientated, too. DJ could have been Jenny Hanley. Check the schedules. Nicky Horne, Roger Day...

Re: When did the UK go metric?

I'm not an "authority", but UK has not gone entirely metric. Back in '61 the Met Office changed from F to C. Currency went decimal in '71. We buy petrol/oil (gas/oil?) in litres (not liters), also milk, bottled beer. Draught beer is still in pints, though. Wood (e.g.) is also crazy. Sold i...

Re: VLC

Hi Wove, The command line I gave earlier is run in the background on a Raspberry Pi (X not started). Having said that, I plugged the URL into desktop VLC on Windows and it played properly. Did you open it as a Network stream (Ctrl-N)? I've heard comments from listeners from Canada, Australia, New Ze...

Re: VLC

Too much distortion, variable volume (here in the UK) with my standard presets (see previous). My to-go radio station is https://listen-boomradio.sharp-stream.com/65_boom_radio_live_128 (or sometimes https://listen-boomradio.sharp-stream.com/65_boom_rock_160_aac_lc ). UK orientated though. Schedules...

Re: VLC

I find VLC very useful mainly for the command line invocations. This way I can get a web and/or telnet interface to the server. E.g. I use /usr/bin/vlc --config=/home/chris1/internetradio/vlcrc.pulse --no-video --no-media-library --daemon --pidfile=/var/lock/vlc-music.pid --playlist-autostart --play...

Re: DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

+1 to that. c 1:30 until I wake up - anything between 9:00 and 11:30
I don't know where anyone got the idea that us oldies need less sleep. Apart from the overnight bit, I regularly get an hour or so late afternoon or early evening.
We're (UK) not on DST until 02:00 31st March.

I knew it. Another reason to be thankful I live alone - well since the cat died.

Re: Wubuntu Windows Ubuntu OS

I first used UNIX (SCO) on an early 486 back in the start of time. Vi was the nearest thing to EDT on VAX/VMS. Hence, I use Vim (Vi Improved) now.

Re: Wubuntu Windows Ubuntu OS

I took the bait. Downloaded (eventually, I had to use wget) and installed in a VM (VirtualBox). Got Conky and Vim installed as usual - why are these two "essential" progs not included in {X}ubuntu? Paint.net next. What a shambles. I don't think I'll be continuing with this spin. LMDE6 is g...

Re: Medical issues

To an extent, it's the same the world over. After all, only one person makes money from the dead, and then only once. If you can keep people alive for longer, they can/will develop more diseases requiring more interventions. Lots of people make money here - doctors, drug companies, hospitals - and l...
