Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

I do agree that Linux does RAM management well. I have never ran out of RAM on a task and I am impressed at how well it does with lower spec hardware. I assume the behavior I see is perhaps do to Linux's server roots. It does everything adequately while maintaining as much reserve as possible to han...

Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

Memory management for me should be totally transparent to the end user. Linux distro overviews and reviews do always mention there RAM usage, and Linux users do seem to use memory reporting tools more than other OSes. That kind of makes me think that Linux is probably not that good at memory managem...

Very nice weather is here at last.

Minnesota has a few weeks of excellent weather and it is here at last. Nights drop to about 60F and days get to about 80F. The bugs are coming out, but are not yet a bother. Garden looks great with the first early flowers about to bloom, and potatoes, onions, and tomatoes coming along nicely. We hav...

Re: FACEBOOK SUCKS

I do not know how it is in other parts of the world, but in the US women typically outlive men by a good long time. I have also met/know a number of me that seem to want to celebrate retirement by getting a new younger wife. It makes for a great number of single older women. And most of them I have ...

Re: Softmaker Office 2024 beta released

I bought a cad program from SoftMaker which put me on their email list. I think I should unsubscribe from the list, but about once a month they give away a free font. I have a SoftSpot for fonts. Most of the free fonts are not that interesting, but every now and again they have a symbol, or dingbat ...

Re: Just feeling like a little KDE.

I have found that distros based on Ubuntu 22.04 boot run and install on the machine. However there is a lot of variation in how well they run. Bodhi does very well. PopOS is not at all bad considering it is a pretty heavy OS. Budgie, Kabuntu and Neon are the poorest of the lot. The system's max RAM ...

Re: The Scorpions

Thanks for the memories on that. There are a few versions of Diamonds and Rust on YouTube. The last time I heard that was probably back about the time it came out and was popular. I was still working for an engineering firm at that time and we had a contract with the USGS to update maps of the Bound...

Re: The Scorpions

Judas Priest covered a Joan Baez song. I forget which one, but it really was a very unique take. I was working with a fellow, who was all into Judas Priest and ended up listening to way more of their music, than I personally would have wanted to. I will dig deeper into YouTube for "Humanity&quo...

Re: The Scorpions

I had not heard of the group. I looked them up and listened to a song and some snippets on YouTube. I do like listening to a variety of different music, but like with movies and books, once I have seen it, read it, or listened to it, I do not want to do it again. And of course the first song that po...

Just feeling like a little KDE.

It has been a while since I have used KDE. And well what is more KDE than Neon. I thought it would be fun to try it out on my 2008 17 inch MacBook Pro. It was released i in April 2008 and so to celebrate its recent birthday it got a fresh install of KDE Neon. The original purchaser of this machine w...
