Re: What hardware are you using?

I move my /home from distro to distro as well. While that generally works without a hitch, there are sometime anomalies that leave me wondering if it is some kruft in my home folder, or a glitch in the distro. I have noticed several new installs I have done have started with very laggy performance i...

Re: Windows 10 gone in 2025, Windows 11 on the way

I watched a couple videos on YouTube about the leaked Window's 11. They did not have much useful info. My big wonder is what is it going cost? It could of course be a free update. Microsoft still has the license and activation mechanisms still in place, which I assume they keep so they can still use...

Re: Windows 10 gone in 2025, Windows 11 on the way

Yeah that news and weather thing on the taskbar ranks right up there with the inclusion of Candy Crush Saga in the first Windows 10 release. What I do not like about MS News and Google News as well, is that news items are displayed based on your interests, which means they very quickly devolve into ...

Re: Windows 10 gone in 2025, Windows 11 on the way

I liked the mail, weather, and calendar live tiles. Tap the windows key and I could see info at a glance and if nothing just walk away, but overall it seemed a poor launcher. I installed the PowerToy which provided an alt-space search based launcher that I use most times. I think partly MS and app d...

The life span of ceiling fans.

A month back I turn off our ceiling fan to reverse the direction of rotation. It would never turn again. I got a new ceiling fan to replace it. When I was doing the swap and took the old one down I found the date code stamped into side of the motor. It was stamped 3-17-84. I knew we have had it for ...

Re: What hardware are you using?

Everything I have read concerning Risc-V has been pretty exciting. Open source hardware would be pretty grand. Haiku has already been ported. Build your own hardware, build your own OS, what's not to love

Re: Got a Raise....Big Deal

Wow a 3rd cousin. I come from a smail family and am not even sure I know what a 3rd cousin is? I have little patience for anyone yelling at me and that would include 3rd cousins if I have any.

Re: What hardware are you using?

Progress on the Pinebook Pro has been frustrating and painfully slow. Manjaro is the only distro that gives good hardware support, so starting with the minimal install I built a Budgie DE on top. It has proved to be quiet usable. There are still power management problems, but it has gotten good enou...
