Re: NAS setup question(s)

In my case the simple and most straight forward solution is to simply turn on file sharing on Endless. Endless is my main OS and has been for several years now. The machine is always on, although it sleeps 23 hours a day. So when I need to grab a file I just need to walk over and tap the mouse to wa...

Re: NAS setup question(s)

Sorry Chris, I get confused easily. I added the line 'server min protocol = NT1' to /Home/wove/.local/etc/. . . which is where Endless OS (an immutable OS) stores the user config files. When you log in Endless will replace the default system configuration normally stored in /etc with changes you mak...

Re: NAS setup question(s)

You hit the nail on the head, Chris. The TimeCapsule is old and times have kind of just moved on. It does work with Windows10/11. So while MS has deprecated SMB1, it appears that it still can use it. On the Apple side of things it uses afp, and the last that Ubuntu supported afp was in 18.04. The af...

Re: NAS setup question(s)

Thanks for the pointers, Chris. This TimeCapsule is nowhere near as easy to setup as NextCloud, unless you are using Apple kit, in which case it just sets itself up. Of course NextCloud has a client for just about every OS which sort of sets itself up as well. Apple's TimeCapsule was discontinued in...

NAS setup question(s)

I am trying to get Linux to connect to this TimeCapsule/Router, Wireless, NAS thing. Of course Apple devices just see it and use it, Windows sees it as an SMB share, and Linux just complains that either nothing is there, or connection failure. The router portion on the device has three network optio...

Re: Is Sony abusing FreeBSD with Playstation?

That video popped up when I visited YouTube this morning and I had to take a look at it. I follow BSD as much as I follow Linux. Last summer I had watched the head of the FreeBSD foundation give her keynote speech. During the speech she thanked the major supporters of the project for their support, ...

Re: A NAS at an estate auction

I setup the Apple Time Capsule, but have not yet checked on its power consumption. It is pretty nice. I have it setup as its own internal network, with no connection to the outside world. It has 5 gigabit ethernet ports as well as wireless A/C. To access files you first need to login to the device. ...

Could not quite figure out what Bob Marley had to do with this thread, so I put on some Bob Marley to see if I could figure it out!

A NAS at an estate auction

I went to an estate auction on Saturday with my son. The day before Easter seemed an odd day for an auction. It was chilly and drizzling so there were not many people there. My son wanted to go for a few items that caught his eye in the advertisement. I went for the ride. Misc Box #4 caught my eye. ...

Re: New Antenna

The worse thing that happens to the dishwasher in our house is my fingers get all wrinkly in the water. :)

Leaking water anywhere is a pain to mess with.
