VLC

For years I ignored VLC, not because it worked poorly, but because I saw it as having a cumbersome and arcane UI. I always had it around because it did work with everything and software like Handbrake required it be installed. Like my distain for Evolution that has past and I find myself moving to u...

Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

I have been using Endless OS for a long time now. I setup virtual machines in Boxes to take a look at what new might be coming along. Every now and again I will install on hardware. I have found myself in something of a retro rabbit hole, intrigued by seeing what all can still be done with old OSes ...

Re: New Antenna

Our antenna is in the attic. I snagged the coax cable and jerked the end off when it connects to the pre-amp which shut the system down. That was a couple years ago and I have never bothered to fix the connection. I am not even sure what remains on broadcast TV. We did like to watch gymnastics, figu...

Re: Lenovo Legion R25f-30 monitor

I grew up and have lived in small towns most of my life. I always thought it would be nice to live in a big city so you could go to a store look at things that interested you and then maybe just buy them and take them home to enjoy them right away. Now even if you live in a big city things are just ...

Re: What hardware are you using?

PEX is not bad to work with. The most often mentioned drawback is it has a high coefficient of friction, so you either loose water pressure, or you have to go with bigger pipe. Personally what I dislike is that installs always look so unprofessional. It just seems very janky compared to nice even st...

Re: What hardware are you using?

Not really Linux related, but in the past month I purchased a big electric chisel thing and a set of PEX tools for doing new PEX plumbing. This was triggered because the water heater died and had to be replaced. I took @crosscourt's suggestion and decided to just go ahead and redo all the plumbing. ...

Re: FreeBSD 13.3 released

I have been thinking more and more about moving to FreeBSD. I think it was @Bin that had mentioned NsCDE which I have been looking at in a VM. It seems like it might be a bit of nostalgia coupled with a very stable OS that can do the things I like to putz around with. The only thing giving me troubl...

Re: DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Just for me probably but I like the sun rise to happen as early as possible, so my preference is for regular time. I do tend to stay up later, but for me and my wife the days of activities are over by 5pm and the evening is for comfortable chairs and reading. In the morning, sitting on the porch wit...

The US Congress is worse than a bunch of Linux noobs arguing over what is the best distro. :)

Re: cataract surgery

Oh yeah :) My wife often asks me, "Just how dirty does the floor have to get before you will pick up a broom!" To which I will sheepishly reply, "The floor looks fine."
