Re: DELL OPTIPLEX PROBLEM

Me too, I seem to be quite lucky with hardware, I have some machines that are still 100% original and fully working! although tbh I don't really push my hardware too hard.

And I just pulled an old PS2 out of a drawer and had a play on that yesterday, brought back some happy memories!

Re: DELL OPTIPLEX PROBLEM

I had a psu fail recently, I left the psu switched on but the pc off and the following day when I tried booting it just flicked the fans on for a fraction of a second and then switched off, then it would not power on until the power cord was removed for a minute or so, then it would do the same agai...

Re: DELL OPTIPLEX PROBLEM

Another thing to check would be dust inside the case, especially around the cpu cooler, I would also blow out the entire case with air gun and then remove the cpu fan and replace the thermal paste. And tbh I would totally strip the machine and check each component for any physical signs of damage be...

Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

I just had another stint on there and I'm not keen, the "linux desktop" is pretty useless and can't open a terminal! I can get firefox to open but the screen resolution is terrible, I have looked everywhere GUI-wise and I can't open a new tty to check for firmware etc... I'm not sure I would get eno...

Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

I saw a YT video about Linux gaming on Steam and thought I'd give it a watch and it didn't look too bad, provided you can get the right firmware it should perform pretty well. I have only done minimum testing (installed it and d/l'd and played a couple of quick games) so cannot say how good it runs,...

Re: What distros have you been testing recently?

I tried SteamOs a few days ago and although it does seem to run the steam client well and games have been downloaded and run ok, the Linux desktop seems pretty useless, I could not even get a terminal to run without it crashing! It looks like I will have to keep it as a standalone OS only to be used...

Re: Windows 7 is done

I would imagine there are quite a few companies with existing service contracts with M$ and they will still do this for a while, I think they did that with XP when it was first phased out.

Re: Q4OS 4.0 testing released

I saw your post and had started doing the same but got interrupted, by the time I got back to it you had already posted the solution so I discarded mine. :)

I like being able to run 2 VM's w/ 6 core each, 8 GB ram each, and still have my desktop run fine!!
Amen to that! I have been playing with more vm's lately and this Ryzen is doing an awesome job!

Re: My new gaming pc will have Ryzen

I've used my Ryzen machine with Windows quite a bit and also have the Ryzen Master Utility installed but I only use it to monitor the cpu and have never OC'd as I would prefer to upgrade to get better performance than to risk burning something out. I realise that most boards/cpu's have a lot more pr...
